This RAM 3500 build takes everything you love about American grunt and wraps it in a precision Australian chassis-mount canopy. No tray, no clutter — just a clean, colour-coded aluminium system that carries its weight like the truck does: with ease and purpose.
Why we built it this way
The 3500 doesn’t need help pulling its weight — it needs a canopy that matches its scale and power.
We built this one directly on the chassis using our extruded aluminium space-frame design, strong enough to handle serious gear without punishing payload. The focus: function, flow, and finish.
All-body colour Bright White ties into the factory paint, with black hardware and a seamless cab-level fit for that OEM look. It’s fully insulated, fully sealed, and ready for both work and touring.
Stand-out features
This canopy measures L 2200 mm (2000 canopy + 200 rear shelf) × W 2020 mm, built for the dual-cab platform and proportioned to the truck. Two full-width opening doors with remote central locking give clean, one-hand access, and the interior is lined in marine-carpet insulation for noise and thermal control.
Outside, it’s all business:
A heavy-duty roof and integrated rear visor with high-mount LED lighting; flared guards, sequential LED tail lights, and protective covers that make the rear end look factory-plus. Down low sit four under-tray toolboxes, an under-tray drawer, and a 120 L water tank plumbed with a pump switched via the onboard Garmin control system. Out back, a drop-down rear ladder and fixed spare-wheel carrier make access easy, while a 200 mm external shelf handles quick-grab gear.
Inside, it’s a proper touring layout. On the left: our aluminium slide-out and drop-down kitchen beside a 126L Dometic NRX 130C upright fridge (126 L). Behind that, custom marine-carpeted drawers run the full side, with a smaller utility drawer opposite and an outboard-motor slide at the rear wall. Everything’s framed to leave usable rear access for wiring, loading, and airflow.
Electrics are a full Enerdrive 12 V suite, supplied by the owner and mounted inside a marine-carpeted headboard electrical cabinet. It runs dual DC-DC chargers, a 3000 W inverter/100 A charger, 400 Ah lithium battery, and full switching through Garmin panels.
Power inputs and outputs are everywhere you need them:
- 240 V inlet/outlet mounted up high on the rear wall
- Grey Andersons front and rear for solar and accessories
- Dual ARB twin compressors (one in each front toolbox) with regulators and five outlets
- Roadvision LED interior and under-tray lighting split into smart Garmin-controlled zones
- CMS GPO/USB panels throughout
- Scirocco cooling fans on temp control for the electrics
The factory reverse camera, sensors and blind-spot monitors are all refitted and recalibrated — so you keep every driver-assist feature post-build.
